1. Former attorney Alex Murdaugh was convicted of killing his own wife and son Thursday. bringing an end to the trial that was in the national spotlight for more than five weeks. Murdaugh is facing 30 years to life. (WGME)
2. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch. Forecasters predict heavy snow will begin falling in Portland around 1am Sat. and likely won’t end until around 9pm. York and Cumberland counties, especially the coastal areas, can expect to see up to 18 inches of snow. (PH)
3. The MPA has made several changes to Saturday’s high school basketball championship schedule. Class B title games at Portland’s Cross Insurance Arena and Class D games at Bangor’s Cross Insurance Center have been moved. Class B will play Saturday night at the Augusta Civic Center. Class D will play Monday night at the Cross Center in Bangor. Class AA games – Oxford Hills versus Gorham girls, and Portland versus South Portland boys – are still scheduled for 7 and 8:45 p.m. at Cross Insurance Arena. 4. The Boston Bruins became the fastest team in NHL history to reach 100 points by beating the Buffalo Sabres 7-1 in their 9th straight win on Thursday night. They’re on pace to surpass the 96-97 Montreal Canadiens for most points (132) in a season. (PH)
5. A parking lot pole at the Auburn Walmart is now an infamous landmark. A 9-year-old traveled over an hour to see it for her bday. It’s received national press coverage and has a FB page with over 8k followers. Walmart has added two concrete barriers around the pole and a flashing stop sign on top of it, but cars continue to hit the pole. (WMTW)
