1. A fast-moving fire damaged or destroyed six buildings in the heart of Sanford on Thursday afternoon, sending at least four people to the hospital. The Red Cross said Thursday night they are assisting a family of five and a family of three, who were displaced by the fire. The initial 911 call came in just after 1:15 p.m. The fire reached five alarms with 25 municipalities responding, including the State Fire Marshal’s office. 2. The varsity football coach at Gray-New Gloucester High has resigned after allegations arose that he instructed his players to taunt a Yarmouth player about having two mothers as parents. The parents, Lynn and Stephanie Eckersley-Ray, say Gray-New Gloucester coach Duane Greaton told his players to taunt their son every time he was tackled during a game last Friday by saying, “Who’s your daddy?” (PH)
3. The Maine Legislature is set to return Monday to consider a re-write offered by a legislative committee handling marijuana implementation. Republican House Minority Leader Ken Fredette said he is sponsoring Gov. Paul LePage’s bill to delay recreational marijuana sales to January 2019. Fredette said there are concerns about the committee’s proposal and lawmakers having the time to read the 70-page bill, which would also delay sales until 2019. It has been nearly a year since Maine voters approved legalizing recreational marijuana. (WMTW)
4. The Los Angeles Dodgers are heading to the World Series for the first time since 1988 after beating the Chicago Cubs 11-1 in Game 5 of the National League Championship on Thursday. The Dodgers will host the New York Yankees or Houston Astros in Game 1 of the World Series on Tuesday night.
