1. Four people were arrested Sunday after two of them fired guns during a dispute outside Wal-Mart, and police armed with rifles surrounded the woods south of the University of Maine at Augusta in search of a possible fifth suspect. No one was injured in the exchange of gunfire. The altercation was interrupted by two armed civilians. (PH)
2. Runners and colored corn starch combined for what is known as “the happiest 5K on the planet” Sunday. About 4,000 people packed into Bug Light Park in South Portland for the fourth annual Color Run. A portion of the proceeds from the run benefit the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital. It’s one of the hospital’s largest fundraisers. (WMTW)
3. Another prestigious honor has been bestowed on a restaurant in Portland’s Old Port. National publication, Restaurant Hospitality Magazine, searched the nation for the best chicken sandwich. Their journey ended in Maine when the judges tried Liquid Riot’s new creation, Chicken Skin Sliders. And it’s just as it’s described: fried chicken skins on a bun. (WCSH)
4. The LGBT’s 46th annual Pride March in New York City on Sunday proved to be the biggest parade in U.S. history. The NBA and WNBA, which are both based in New York City, both showed their support for the LGBT community and became the first two professional sports leagues ever to have their own float in the parade. 5. Decide to Be Married Day. This day is meant to not only honor the fact that newlyweds-to-be are close to getting married, but that they decided to do it in the first place.
