1. Twenty-three seasons of Portland Pirates hockey officially came to an end on Monday. The American Hockey League’s Board of Governors unanimously approved the sale of the minor-league team to a group of local investors in Springfield, Massachusetts. The AHL team’s nickname will be announced in coming weeks. (PH)
2. Police across the state are stepping up seat belt enforcement ahead of the long Memorial Day weekend. The York County Sheriff’s Department announced the launch of its “Border to Border” campaign on Monday, teaming up with state police from Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts in cracking down on seat belt violations. 3. Portland legislators are asking Gov. Paul LePage to apologize for falsely claiming that a high school student repeatedly overdosed and went to class after being revived with the drug naloxone a third time. LePage told the story while speaking against a bill to allow access to naloxone without a prescription. The Republican says such legislation should require people who receive naloxone to enter rehab after being revived. (WCSH)
4. Fans of Apple products are already anxiously awaiting the release of the next generation of iPhone that will go on sale late next year. The iPhone 7 will have new screens created by Applied Materials Inc., and will be brighter and have higher definition displays. (Complex)
5. A class-action lawsuit, filed earlier this year, argues that the PurePulse technology used in the Fitbit trackers that measure your heart rate doesn’t do it as well as the company’s marketing material promises. The suit alleges that a defect in the trackers is a safety hazard because people who rely on inaccurate heart rate readings for medical purposes could be at risk. A study found that the devices were off by, on average, 20 beats per minute during moderate- to high-intensity exercise. (CNN)
