1. President Barack Obama has arrived in Hiroshima, the first visit by a sitting U.S. president to the site of the world’s first atomic bombing. While speaking in Hiroshima he said that there is a “shared responsibility” to look into the “eye of history” and ask what must be done to prevent another nuclear weapon being used. (CNN)
2. Maine State Police are stepping up their efforts to stop speeding, and that work includes coordination between Maine State Police troopers on the ground and one in the air. Trooper Jerry Pearson flies the plane at about 1,800 feet, doing circles over the highway to catch speeders. (WMTW)
3. After expanding from Greater Portland to the Lewiston-Auburn area, Uber is expanding south to several Maine beach towns. The company announced Thursday that it was expanding service to Crescent Beach, Kennebunkport, Kittery, Ogunquit, Old Orchard Beach, Scarborough Beach and Wells Beach. (WMTW)
4. Wayfair, the online home furnishings company, is on track to hire 1,000 workers for its operations opening this summer in Maine. Wayfair is on track to open its sales and customer service operation at Brunswick Landing in Brunswick next month and another operation in Bangor in July. (PH)
