1. On Friday, the World Health Organization declared an end to COVID-19 being a public health emergency. The WHO Director said “For more than a year, the pandemic has been on a downward trend with population immunity increasing from vaccination and infection, mortality decreasing, and the pressure on health systems easing.” The WHO first declared COVID a public health emergency in January 2020. 2. On Saturday, two distressed swimmers off the coast of Ogunquit were rescued by local firefighters and a fisherman. Nathanael Pierce, an Ogunquit firefighter, swam into the water and safely brought them back to shore. Fire officials are reminding people that the ocean is still cold and hypothermia can set in quickly, even with a wetsuit. (WGME)

3. The Oxford County Sheriff admitted to using his position to help a traffic ticket recipient.  Christopher Wainwright also apologized for speaking inappropriately to deputies who reported his request. Wainwright said in his statement. “The citizen’s sister was facing a potentially terminal health issue and I wanted to help her.” (WMTW)

4. Tourism season kicked off this past weekend with beautiful weather and the arrival of cruise ships. Portland’s First Friday Art Walk of the season also helped pack the streets.  Maine tourism association says 70 percent of businesses they polled don’t have enough staff for their busiest season. (WGME)

5. On Saturday, King Charles III was officially anointed and crowned as the King of the United Kingdom during the coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey in London, England. Prince Harry attended the coronation despite public family tension without his wife, Meghan Markle. (ET)
