1. The number of people hospitalized statewide with COVID-19 increased to 156 on Sunday, up from 149 on Saturday. Dr. Mills, chief health improvement officer at MaineHealth, said people can still contract the virus, but the vaccines are helping to protect people from becoming seriously ill.
2. Two firefighters and one other person were injured after a large fire Saturday at the Red Jacket Inn resort in North Conway. 75 rooms were burnt out. The fire drew 27 different fire departments.
3. A 26-year old woman was arrested for operating under the influence after driving her car down the stairs of the Portland Police parking garage. The woman drove through the garage, across the pedestrian plaza, and then tried to drive down the stairs. When police arrived on scene, the woman claimed she was following her GPS. Police say it was her excessive blood alcohol level that led to the incident.
4. Portland’s outdoor dining scene won’t be as expansive this summer. Relaxed enforcement allowed establishments to increase their seating capacity without needing to add bathroom facilities. The code is back to full enforcement now, and because it is a state regulation, the city is unable to amend it.
