1. The Senate is expected to confirm Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson today, securing her place as the first Black woman on the high court. Three Republican senators including Maine Sen. Susan Collins have said they will support Jackson.
2. President Biden has extended the pause on federal student loan payments through August “to enable Americans to continue to get back on their feet after two of the hardest years this nation has ever faced.”
3. Maine Medical Center plans to leave the Anthem insurance network in January. The dispute between the state’s largest hospital and Maine’s largest health insurer could affect more than 150,000 patients, forcing them to pay higher out-of-pocket costs. Gov. Janet Mills issued a statement saying she is “deeply concerned” and urged the two sides to resolve their differences.
4. The Boston Red Sox Opening Day game against the New York Yankees has been postponed until tomorrow because of inclement weather. Friday is also opening day for the Portland Sea Dogs. They host the New Hampshire Fisher Cats for a three-game series concluding Sunday.
5. Beer Day – Today celebrates the day in 1933 that the Cullen-Harrison act was signed into law, reversing the prohibition on selling beer in the United States. Cheers to drinking beer, the most popular bar drink!
