1. Residents of Hawaii are stocking up on water, food and emergency supplies as Hurricane Lane threatens to hit. Schools, businesses and government offices were also closed. Hurricane Lane weakened to a category 4 storm overnight, but is packing 155 MPH winds. President Donald Trump urged people to prepare for the storm, which could bring torrential rains and dangerous surf. “Everyone in the path of #HurricaneLane please prepare yourselves, heed the advice of State and local officials, and follow @NWSHonolulu for updates. Be safe!” he tweeted.

2. Four bells and five gongs that help guide mariners in dangerous waters off Maine’s coast have been stolen since last winter. Although Maine has scores of navigational aids and only nine buoys have been targeted so far, Coast Guard officials say the situation puts mariners who depend on the buoys for emergency navigation at risk. They’re offering a potentially hefty reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction. By federal law, anyone who steals a navigational aid could be liable for up to $25,000 per day in penalties per buoy, or up to one year in prison.

3. A truck carrying 7,000 of pounds of live lobster crashed on Route 1 in Brunswick Wednesday spilling the crustaceans all along the roadway. Police say they think the Cozy Harbor Seafood Inc. truck carrying the 60 to 70 crates of the cash crustaceans probably hydroplaned sending the truck rolling down a steep embankment. Many of the 7,000 pounds of lobsters were packed up and hauled away from the crash scene but will not be for sale.
