1. Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek announced Wednesday that he is battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Trebek said in a video to fans that he’s “going to fight this” and “going to keep working.” The American Cancer Society says pancreatic cancer has a five-year survival rate of nine percent. (CNN)
2. Lawmakers in Augusta are examining a bill that would decriminalize prostitution in Maine. The bill would also change the term “prostitute” to “prostituted person.” The law would apply to the person providing the service. The person buying the service would still face criminal charges. 3. Family Dollar is expected to close as many as 390 stores this year. They are also expected to turn 200 others into Dollar Tree. Dollar Tree operates 102 stores in Maine, including 39 Dollar Tree and 63 Family Dollar, according to the company. They have yet to share a list of Family Dollar stores that are closing. (WGME)
4. Rosemont Market butcher Elise Miller won the $10,000 prize on the Food Network’s popular chef competition show “Chopped” on Tuesday night. Fans and friends gathered at Oxbow Brewing Co. on Washington Avenue for a viewing party. A man who survived on Taco Bell sauce packet while trapped in his car for five days last week is getting a year of free food from the fast-food chain. “We know our sauce packets are amazing, but this takes it to a whole new level,” Taco bell said in a statement. “We’ve sent him a well-deserved care package, a year’s supply of Taco Bell, and of course, all the sauce packets that come with it.” (Fox News)
