1. The United States coronavirus cases top 1,390,000. America’s death toll stands at more than 84,000. A WHO official said the virus may never go away and may join the mix of viruses that kill people around the world every year.

2. One new coronavirus-related death and 38 new coronavirus cases were reported in Maine on Wednesday, bringing the death toll to 66 and the statewide case number to 1,515 of which 506 are active. Most new cases are close household contacts of people who contracted the coronavirus.

3. Governor Janet Mills signed a proclamation on Wednesday that extends the state of civil emergency for 30 days through June 11. A state of emergency in part enables Maine’s access to critical federal aid to boost response efforts. All U.S. states and territories, including those in New England, have ongoing emergency declarations.

4. Erik’s Church, a Windham restaurant, had their drive-in concert shut down Tuesday night. Bands performed from flatbed trucks in the parking lot, and people could order food and sit in their car, or in the bed of their pickup to listen. The state Wednesday told the restaurant’s owner that the event was a violation of gatherings of 10 or more people.

5. The Maine National Guard is completing the second half of its flyover on Thursday to support frontline workers. The route will start after 11am and include hospitals in Bar Harbor, Machias, Houlton and more.
