1. At least five Facebook pages purportedly showing or threatening to show photos of underage Maine girls have been removed since Thursday. Detective David Armstrong with the Maine Computer Crimes Task Force said Thursday that his office is investigating and is waiting to hear back from Facebook to respond to search warrants. The person responsible for the page could face felony charges, according to police. Police departments from York County, the Mid Coast and Central Maine have all contacted state officials. In a statement a Facebook spokesperson told WMTW, “Nothing is more important to Facebook than the safety of the people that use our site and this material has absolutely no place on Facebook.” One tip from investigators: If you do become a victim, take a screenshot of the image so it can be used as evidence later. 2. Former Portland chef Jason Daly will compete on the Food Network show “Chopped” on May 29 at 9 p.m. Daly’s episode, titled “Surf and Turf,” features “some expensive and obscure proteins from both land and sea,” according to a press release. Daly was the executive chef at Crooners & Cocktails, which closed in February. A number of Maine chefs have competed on Chopped over the years, including Dysart’s Shaun Yazbek, Duckfat’s Rob Evans (twice, he won the first time) and Christian Hayes of Dandelion Catering Co. (he won, too). (PH)
3. Uber Eats launches in Portland today, bringing one more food delivery option to the city. So far, five local food businesses have signed up with the service: The Truffle Truck, a new Italian food truck that is also making its debut Thursday; Thai Esaan; Bill’s Pizza; Blue Rooster; and Gelato Fiasco. Like all food delivery services, there is a surcharge – Uber Eats calls it a “booking fee” – added to the bill. In Portland, that fee will be $4.99 per order. Uber Eats is available in more than 140 cities in North America, Portland now among them. (PH)
4. At the beginning of the school year, Rashun Richardson enrolled at Skyline High School in Dallas, claiming to be a 17-year-old Hurricane Harvey refugee. Richardson went on to star for the school’s basketball team and date a 14-year-old classmate. Well, it turns out Richardson was neither 17 nor, uh, Richardson. The Dallas Morning News reports that he was, in fact, Sidney Bouvier Gilstrap-Portley, a 25-year-old who now faces charges of tampering with government records. His motive for adopting the alias? To get another crack at high-school hoops. Gilstrap-Portley actually played ball during his first stint in high school, where his “surprised” coach recalls that he was “an average player and a good kid.” Thankfully, the 14-year-old girl’s mom says her daughter and her (much) older boyfriend never consummated their relationship.
