1. Casco Bay High School, Thornton Academy, Brunswick High School, and Edward Little High School plan to participate in the #NationalSchoolWalkout. The walkouts will take place on March 14th at 10 a.m. They will last 17 minutes, to represent the 17 students killed by a gunman at a high school in Parkland, Florida. The premise behind the walkout is that “thoughts and prayers are not enough” when it comes to school shootings. (NCM)
2. About 250 workers at a Hannaford distribution center in South Portland have authorized a strike after rejecting the supermarket chain’s offer for a three-year contract. The warehouse employees are seeking a higher annual raise, options for less expensive health insurance plans and to eliminate the difference in starting wage between the last contract and this one. 3. The group behind the new lobster emoji has announced its making the digital crustacean more anatomically correct and adding more legs. The lobster emoji will now have 10 legs instead of the original eight. The lobster emoji was one of more than 150 picked to be added in the next round of emojis. (WMTW)
