Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Robert Bowers, the 46-year-old Pennsylvania man who allegedly killed 11 people and wounded six others when he went on a shooting spree in a Pittsburgh synagogue. BuzzFeed reports that Bowers, who was shot by police during his attack, made his first court appearance on Monday handcuffed in a wheelchair. He only spoke to confirm his name and say he understood the 29 charges against him, which include 11 of using a firearm to commit murder and the hate crime of obstruction of exercise of religious beliefs resulting in death. 2. The community in southern Maine will come together tonight for a vigil put on by the Jewish Community Alliance. The Jewish community is holding a public vigil at the Congregation Bet Ha’am in South Portland to remember the victims. Members of the Jewish community hope all community members, Jewish and non-Jewish, can join in solidarity to fight against anti-Semitism and all forms of bias, discrimination and hate. (WGME)
