1. Dr. Fauci says the United States is finally “out of the pandemic phase.” Fauci said the United States was no longer seeing “tens and tens and tens of thousands of hospitalizations and thousands of deaths. We are at a low level right now.” The CDC said nearly 60 percent of Americans have been infected with the coronavirus.
2. One person is dead and another in the hospital after a shooting on Woodford Street in Portland early Tuesday morning. People reported hearing an argument involving a group of people and the sound of gunshots. Police found a 43-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman in the roadway. Both had been shot. The man died. Police said the woman’s injuries were not life-threatening.
3. Maine Senator Susan Collins thinks former President Donald Trump should be allowed back on Twitter. She said she doesn’t agree with a lot of Trump’s tweets but thinks it’s only fair for him to get his account back now that free speech advocate Elon Musk is taking over the platform.
4. Greely High School in Cumberland is the best in Maine, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2022 high school rankings. This is the third year in a row Greely received the state’s No. 1 slot. The top five schools include Kennebunk High School, Maine School of Science and Mathematics in Limestone, Cape Elizabeth High School and Falmouth High School.
