1. President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that he has recommended that “bump stocks”–devices that let semi-automatic weapons fire hundreds of rounds per minute–be banned. Gunman Stephen Paddock, who killed 58 people and wounded hundreds of others in Las Vegas in October had at least 12 rifles fitted with bump stocks. (CNBC)
2. Members of United Foods and Commercial Workers Local 1445 who work at the Hannaford distribution center in South Portland launched a 24-hour strike this morning. The 250 workers and Hannaford representatives are in the midst of contract negotiations. (WMTW)
3. Two more Mainers died from the flu last week, bringing the seasonal total to 48, according to new data from the Maine Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The number of positive lab results is down about 5 percent week-over-week. Hospitalizations for the flu were also down about 8 percent. The flu remains considered widespread across Maine, but the decrease in numbers may indicate the spread of the virus is slowing. (WMTW)
