1. Sen. Susan Collins is calling on the Trump administration to immediately stop the “inhumane and traumatizing” practice of separating children from their parents after the families illegally cross into the United States. Collins said she is deeply troubled by the “zero tolerance” policy and on Tuesday she joined a group of 13 Republican senators who are asking the Department of Justice to stop separating families who have illegally crossed into the United States. 2. Canada has become the second country in the world to legalize the recreational use of marijuana nationwide. (Uruguay was the first in 2013.) The Cannabis Act, approved by the Canadian Senate, allows the federal government to license producers to grow and sell weed products. Meanwhile, private households will be authorized to grow up to four marijuana plants at a time. BBC reports that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will now decide when to allow the act to go into effect and it could be as early as this September. (BBC)
3. A man was charged after police say he led them on a chase in a tractor. Police say they spotted a farm tractor moving erratically on North Main Street in Brewer Tuesday morning. Several officers joined the chase, and the driver made it about three miles — nearly into the next town — before finally stopping and surrendering. Police say 41-year-old Todd Hill, of Searsport, was charged with failing to stop for a police officer and driving to endanger. No one was hurt. (WGME)
4. The official Instagram account for Whole Foods was mysteriously purged this week. Billboard reports that the grocery store chain deleted all its previous content, which mainly featured photos of foods and drinks, leaving only six cryptic white squares and blank Instagram Story snaps. The account also appears to be following only six people: Beyoncé, Cardi B, Sting, Bon Jovi, Mariah Carey, and Jerry Seinfeld. (BillBoard)
