1. Kate Spade, a fashion designer known for her sleek handbags, was found hanged in the bedroom of her Park Avenue apartment Tuesday in an apparent suicide, law enforcement officials said. She was 55. Her 13-year-old daughter was at school, and officials said a note was found at the scene telling her it was not her fault. The company she founded and later sold, Kate Spade New York, now has over 140 retail shops and outlet stores across the U.S. and more than 175 shops internationally. She walked away from the company in 2007, a year after it was acquired from the Neiman Marcus Group for $125 million by the company then known as Liz Claiborne Inc. Coach, now known as Tapestry, bought the Kate Spade brand last year for $2.4 billion, seeking to broaden its appeal. (Press Herald)
2. On Tuesday, President Trump held a White House celebration in honor of the Philadelphia Eagles’ Super Bowl victory–without the Philadelphia Eagles, whose invitation he rescinded due to several players’ decision to voluntarily skip the event. Trump trotted out military musicians for a spirited rendition of “God Bless America”–which he appeared to forget the words to as he sang along. There was very few Eagles fans actually in attendance. No matter who wins the NBA finals it seems both teams are in agreement, the winner won’t go to the White House. (NY Mag)
