Lil Nas X has been hinting at his upcoming music era in a unique manner. His latest hint involves an acceptance letter from Liberty University, a conservative Christian institution in Lynchburg, Virginia known for its anti-LGBTQ stance. The letter suggests that Lil Nas X, Montero Hill in real life, is set to enroll in the Christian Leadership and Biblical Studies program at the university this fall.
Despite potential backlash, Lil Nas X clarified the legitimacy of his decision, stating, “I know some of y’all hate me right now, but I want y’all to know I’m literally about to go to college for biblical studies in the fall.” He emphasized that not everything he does is a prank, expressing his excitement about becoming a student again.
Fans are skeptical, suspecting a prank since the acceptance letter was purportedly signed by Jerry Falwell, the university’s “President” who passed away in 2007. Nonetheless, Lil Nas X is gearing up to release his new single, “J. CHRIST,” on Friday.
Earlier in the week, he unveiled the cover art, featuring himself in the role of Jesus on a crucifix, with five onlookers raising him from the ground. A second video clip depicts him nailed to a gold cross. In the announcement, Lil Nas X dedicated his upcoming single to “the man who had the greatest comeback of all time,” referring to Jesus.
