The Mean Girls franchise is making a comeback nearly two decades after Tina Fey’s original film hit theaters. Fey, aged 53, is revisiting her iconic comedy, transforming it into a movie musical based on the 2018 Broadway production of the same title.
In this musical adaptation, Angourie Rice takes on the role of Cady, with Renée Rapp reprising her Broadway performance as Regina George. Other cast members include Auli’i Cravalho as Janis, Jaquel Spivey as Damian, Anantika as Karen, and Bebe Wood as Gretchen. Paramount recently released a new trailer for the film, offering a glimpse into Cady’s introduction to her new high school, along with her initial encounters with Aaron (Christopher Briney) and Regina. The trailer features Rapp’s performance of “Not My Fault,” a song recorded with Megan Thee Stallion for the movie’s soundtrack.
Tina Fey revealed her plan to adapt the Mean Girls musical into a movie in January 2020, and the official cast announcement was made in December 2022. Additionally, in February 2023, Fey announced the return of herself and Tim Meadows, who played Ms. Norbury and Principal Duvall in the original film, reprising their respective roles.
