Janelle Monae opened the 2020 Academy Awards with a medley, and touched on the lack of people of color and female director nominees. “I’m so proud to stand here as a black, queer artist telling stories,” Monae said.
Eminem made a surprise appearance to perform his 8 Mile song “Lose Yourself” nearly 17 years after he won an Oscar for the track. Eminem Tweeted – Look, if you had another shot, another opportunity… Thanks for having me @TheAcademy. Sorry it took me 18 years to get here.
