Shaquille O’Neal recently graduated from LSU with a Master of Arts in Liberal Arts! This marks his second degree from the university after earning his Bachelor’s in 2000. Shaq’s thesis focused on mentorship strategies for athletes, using “The Odyssey” as a framework, reflecting his interest in providing guidance to current and future players.

He remains a prominent figure in LSU basketball history, ranking fifth all-time in scoring (1,941 points) and second in rebounds (1,217), and was named Associated Press Player of the Year in 1991. Beyond his degrees from LSU, O’Neal also holds a Doctoral degree from Barry University in organizational learning and leadership, along with a Master’s degree in education.

Shaq completed 54 credit hours across 16 courses for his graduate degree, achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.813, with a study format that included both in-person and remote learning. Known as a staunch advocate for education, O’Neal emphasizes the importance of academic achievement alongside his successful career in basketball and business.

His longstanding connection with LSU includes a retired jersey honor he received after graduation, and a statue unveiled in 2011 as part of the school’s basketball plaza. Shaq’s decision to pursue his Master’s degree was influenced by a perceived gap in mentorship for athletes from those with professional experience, highlighting the importance of personal insights in sports psychology.
