22 years later, there has now been some justice for Run-DMC’s Jam Master Jay. A federal jury found two men guilty of his murder in a Brooklyn courtroom yesterday. Jam Master Jay, born Jason William Mizell, was killed in Queens in 2002, but the case remained cold for almost two decades before two suspects were arrested in 2020. Both of those suspects, Karl Jordan, Jr., 40, and Ronald Washington, 59, were found guilty of murder. They each face a minimum sentence of 20 years in prison.
Prosecutors called more than 30 witnesses to the stand to prove their case, in which they accused Jordan and Washington of killing Jam Master Jay as payback after he cut them out of a cocaine deal. This is not the end though – last May, a third person, Jay Bryant, 49, was charged in the case. Bryant has yet to stand trial.
Hopefully this closure can bring some comfort to his loved ones.
