Time to start rocking all black again. After collaborating on last year’s My Dear Melancholy, The Weeknd and Gesaffelstein are back with “Lost in the Fire,” a song that will be on Gesaffelstein’s forthcoming project.
The video is very minimalistic with it’s black backdrop, and uses The Weeknd’s performance and imagery to really carry it from beginning to end. Gesaffelstein can be seen looming, lathered in what appears to be a glossy black paint from head to toe, as if he’s drawing from The Weeknd’s early career playbook of hidden identity.
The song is definitely a bop, and potentially has a hidden message for none other than The Weeknd’s fellow Toronto native and frenemy, Drake. Some people are claiming the line, “and I just want a baby with the right one, ‘cause I could never be the one to hide one,” is a shot at Drake’s baby mama drama from last year. One could certainly make the case, but you be the judge.
