It’s always cool seeing rapper venture off into new fields, trying their hand at other forms of entertainment. When they’re animated, charismatic, and perhaps even “weird” as some might have classified Vince Staples once upon a time, getting in to the world of acting makes a whole lot of sense. In less than a month, we’ll get to see Vince star in his own show, appropriately titled “The Vince Staples Show,” which from the trailer gives the vibe that it’s going to be a more comedic leaning dramedy series.
The comparisons to Lil Dicky’s “Dave” and Childish Gambino’s “Atlanta” will certainly be rampant, as they’ve both successfully had the “rapper TV series” crossover work out. Based on the trailer, I can see the “Atlanta” comparison making sense from the jump, but it’ll be interesting to see how Vince puts his own spin on this trend.
5 episodes will be available for streaming on Netflix starting on February 15th, and you can watch the trailer, below.
