1. President Trump’s younger brother, Robert, passed away at the age of 71 on Saturday. “He was not just my brother, he was my best friend,” the president said in a statement. Robert Trump is survived by a wife, the president and their two sisters.
2. Speaker Nancy Pelosi is calling the House back into session over the crisis in the U.S. Postal Service. A vote on legislation that would prohibit changes at the agency is expected. President Trump’s new postmaster general has sparked nationwide outcry over delays, new prices and cutbacks just as millions of Americans will be trying to vote by mail to avoid polling places during the coronavirus outbreak.
3. The U.S. tops 5.4 million coronavirus cases with over 170,000 related deaths. The Maine CDC reported no new deaths and 24 new cases on Sunday. The statewide death toll remains at 127 with 417 active cases.
4. In less than two months, Mainers 21 and older will be able to buy recreational cannabis. When retail sales begin on Oct. 9, it will have been nearly four year since Maine voters legalized recreational marijuana. Expecting a big turnout of customers on Oct. 9, the Office of Marijuana Policy says any retail shops will have to adhere and manage social distancing.
5. Sixteen teams will compete for the NBA Championship as the 2020 playoffs kickoff today. In the first round the Celtics take on the 76ers w/ Game 1 tonight at 6:30pm.
