1. Five are dead, and 25 were injured after a mass shooting at Club Q, LGBTQ nightclub, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Police Chief Adrian Vasquez said, “While the suspect was inside of the club, at least two heroic people inside the club confronted and fought with the suspect and were able to stop the suspect from continuing to kill and harm others. We owe them a great debt of thanks.” (CNN)

2. The Department of Education has started sending updates to debt relief applicants.

The email reads “Your application is complete and approved, and we will discharge your approved debt if and when we prevail in court.” The program is being challenged with several lawsuits that have halted debt forgiveness to millions looking for help. (NN)

3. The Maine Health Access Foundation in Augusta was the only Maine recipient in the latest round of gifts from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott, who is giving away much of her fortune.  The organization works to improve access to health care for those who are uninsured or who live in underserved parts of the state. The $9 million donation came as a surprise. (PH)

4. Kennebunkport is gearing up for their famous Christmas Prelude. This is the 41st year it will be held.  Santa will make his arrival this Sunday on a lobster boat. (WGME)
