1. Portland police said about 10 p.m. Wednesday night a car pulled into the apartment complex of 11 Kennedy Park, the driver got out, knocked on the door and as a family member inside started to walk down the stairs, a man holding a rifle began firing. Assistant Police Chief Robert Martin said “Several rounds from a high-powered rifle, semi-automatic rifle, were fired into the front of the house and into the living area and one of the bullets struck very close to a crib that a one-year-old baby would have been sleeping in.” Police said the family had just moved into the apartment several days ago. Authorities believe the shooter may have targeted the wrong apartment. (WMTW)

2. The Maine CDC reported the state’s first child death from the flu this season on Thursday.  The flu is spreading rapidly across Maine. On Tuesday, the state reported 74 flu outbreaks and 133 hospitalization.  (WMTW) 

3. Gov. Janet Mills ordered all state offices to close Friday in anticipation of a winter storm that is expected to bring heavy rainfall, high winds, coastal flooding and freezing temperatures. (PH)

The Office of the State Treasurer is currently holding over $304 million in unclaimed property.  In Treasurer Henry Beck’s search of the list of over 5 million accounts, he noted many holiday-themed first and last names that currently have thousands and thousands in unclaimed property. Rudolph, Santa, Frosty, Emmanuel, Peace, Joy, Love, Jack Frost, Claus, Noel, Holiday and even Scrooge. (WMTW)
