1. 19-year-old Xavier Pelkey of Waterville has pleaded guilty to a federal indictment that he conspired to provide material support to terrorists — Maine’s first adjudicated ISIS terrorism case. Pelky faces 15 years in prison. Pelkey admitted to plotting remotely with other teenagers to attack a mosque in Chicago in the name of ISIS. (WMTW)
2. A massive fire at a farm in Monmouth Saturday night drew an estimated 75 firefighters from numerous communities. Responders say there were multiple explosions and the roof collapsed. No injuries were reported. (WMTW)
3. Boston Transit Police responded to calls about a man with a long gun inside Back Bay station, only to find a man dressed as ‘Star Wars’ bounty hunter Boba Fett. The cosplayer was carrying a replica weapon. Boston’s annual Anime Convention was taking place over the weekend, drawing thousands of cosplayers. (UPI)
4. The Quarry in Monson (near Moosehead) is the only finalist from Maine for a James Beard Award. The restaurant is in the category of “outstanding hospitality.” “How did they find us? We live in the boonies..” said chef and owner Lulu Ranta. Monson has a population of 671. Ranta’s dishes are American favorites with a Filipino twist. Ranta will go to Chicago in early June for the James Beard Awards ceremony. (WMTW)
5. ‘Friendly Monsters’ are coming to Portland’s Western Prom. South Portland artist Chris Miller plans to bring a polar bear, a saber-toothed cat, a dinosaur, and more in the form of seven carved wooden benches as part of the next installation by nonprofit TempoArt. (PH)
