1. The United States coronavirus cases top 869,000: America’s death toll stands at more than 50,000. On Thursday, President Trump suggested light therapy and injections of disinfectant as possible COVID-19 cures. A senior health official clarified that the federal government is not considering such treatments. (NBC NEWS)
2. The House passed a $484 billion coronavirus relief package late Thursday. The bill will now head to President Trump’s desk, where he’s expected to sign it. About $320 billion will be used to replenish the small business loan program that had run out of money last week. 3. As of Thursday’s Maine CDC briefing 5 more Mainers have died from COVID-19 bringing Maine’s death toll to 44. The Maine CDC says all five COVID-19 deaths reported yesterday were veterans from the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough. There have been 937 coronavirus cases reported in all 16 Maine counties. 150 people have been hospitalized. 485 have recovered. (WGME)
4. Yesterday Gov. Mills outlined her guidelines to reopen the state’s economy while avoiding specifics. There are four principles that will need to be watched. They include keeping an eye on the number of coronavirus cases and deaths, maintaining healthcare readiness, expanding the amount of testing, and collaborating with local city councils and businesses. She has not said if she plans to lift or extend the stay-at-home order, which is set to expire on April 30. (WGME)
5. The NFL kicked off its first-ever remote draft Thursday night. To nobody’s surprise, LSU quarterback Joe Burrow was taken #1 overall by the Cincinnati Bengals.
