1. Funeral services for Det. Campbell will take place in Portland on Tuesday, April 9 at the Cross Insurance Arena. The service will begin at 11 a.m. Det. Campbell was killed Wednesday morning in a “bizarre” accident on I-95. He was standing outside of his cruiser helping another driver when two wheels separated from a logging truck passing by. One wheel rolled into the median, but the other hit Campbell, seriously injuring him. (NewsCenterMaine)
2. Last year, former Gov. Paul LePage vetoed a bill that would have banned the controversial practice of “conversion therapy” in the state. A new bill proposal this time around has bipartisan support and is backed by nearly the entire House Democratic caucus. Opponents of conversion therapy say it can lead to shame, depression, anxiety, drug use and suicide among minors who have been subjected to the practice. (NewsCenterMaine)
3. The Maine House voted Thursday to ban restaurants, coffee shops and other businesses statewide from using foam food and beverage containers. If the bill makes it through the Senate and Governor the ban would begin in 2021. Hospitals and Meals-on-Wheels providers would still be allowed to use styrofoam, as would lobster dealers and other Maine processors that ship seafood in foam coolers and ice chests. (Press Herald)
4. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his ex-wife MacKenzie have revealed the terms of their divorce settlement, believed to the biggest in world history. MacKenzie will receive a four percent stake in Amazon, worth nearly $36 billion–making her the world’s third-richest woman. Jeff remains the world’s richest man with a worth of at least $107 billion. Their divorce reportedly will be settled in 90 days. (Washington Post)
5. Earlier this week in the Dominican Republic, Carlos Silver sang more than 5,000 songs over the course of 106 consecutive hours to supposedly break the 105-hour Guinness World Record held by Sunil Waghmare. But UPI reports that Silver was ultimately disqualified, as video evidence showed him taking breaks of up to two minutes when the maximum break allowed was just 30 seconds. (UPI)
