1. The federal government is sending a COVID-19 Surge Response Team to help Maine Med as it deals with record numbers of patients with the virus. Hospitalizations decreased slightly to 373 on Thursday, from a pandemic high of 379 on Wednesday.
2. N-D paper mill in Old Town is asking local residents for cardboard, cereal and pizza boxes to turn into packaging because of the rising cost of the raw materials it typically uses. The mill says supply chain trouble and the pandemic pushed up the price of raw materials in the last year.
3. With light snow falling this AM it’s feeling more like winter outside. Sugarloaf and Sunday River have been open for a couple weeks. Lost Valley in Auburn is gearing up for their opening day on December 17th.
4. In Senate subcommittee hearings on Wednesday, IG chief Adam Mosseri said the social media site would be bringing back a form of the chronological feed. IG has had complaints from critics and users about what its algorithm puts in front of us every day. The chronological feed option was taken away from the site in 2016.
5. The 9th Annual Toys for Tots Fill-A-Fire Truck is Sunday at the York Hannaford. From 8a to 4p, bring a new, unwrapped toy for children ages infant to 17. Donated toys will go to over 200 families in York.
