1. The United States coronavirus cases top 1,070,000. America’s death toll stands at more than 63,000. More than half of all states will be partially reopened by the end of the week.
2. As of Thursday’s Maine CDC briefing Another Mainer has died from the coronavirus, bringing Maine’s total to 53. There have been 1,095 cases reported in all 16 Maine counties. 411 Active cases. 170 people have been hospitalized. 631 Mainers have recovered.
3. Mainers will be required to wear cloth face coverings in public places starting Friday. The order identifies public settings as including but not limited to grocery stores, health care facilities, playgrounds, public transportation, taxis, ubers, lyfts, and lines for take-out service.
4. Black Mainers account for 5 percent of coronavirus cases in the state. That’s more than three times what would be expected given by their population share, suggesting that racial disparities seen in other states also exist here. The Maine CDC director said several factors likely contributed to the disparity, including that racial minorities are more likely to work in frontline jobs and less likely to have access to health insurance.
5. Golf courses across Maine can open on today with strict restrictions. Only Maine residents can play at Maine golf courses. Golfers must play at courses in their own county, except for clubs where they are a member. As a result of the in-state restrictions, the Maine State Golf Association has canceled its tournaments in May.
