1. The U.S. now has nearly 400,000 cases of coronavirus with a nationwide death toll close to 13,000. US officials have warned this will be the worst week yet. China, where the pandemic began, recorded no new deaths on Monday for the first time since January. (CNN)
2. Two more people in Maine have died from the coronavirus, bringing the total to 12. There have been 519 coronavirus cases reported in 15 Maine counties as of Tuesday. According to Maine CDC Director Dr. Shah 99 people have been hospitalized at some point during their illness and 176 people have recovered. Dr. Shah added “We are only seeing a fraction of the cases that are actually out there.” (WGME)
3. On Tuesday Gov. Janet Mills announced that sites at Cross Insurance Arena in Portland and Cross Insurance Center in Bangor will open next week with at least 100 beds and 50 beds to help Maine’s hospital system handle an anticipated surge in coronavirus patients in the coming weeks. 4. Governor Janet Mills and the Department of Education is recommending schools continue distance learning for the rest of the school year. The recommendation notes as well that the SAT’s will not be required for third year high school students. The DOE also adds that the SAT will not be required for admission at any Maine college or university. (WGME)
5. Quarantined graduates at Tokyo’s Business Breakthrough University were able to receive their diplomas by controlling robot avatars during a commencement ceremony. The robots wore caps and gowns and had the faces of the students controlling them on tablets affixed to their “heads.” (REUTERS)
