- Actor and producer Alec Baldwin was formally charged Tuesday with involuntary manslaughter in the deadly 2021 shooting on the set of his Western movie “Rust” in New Mexico. An investigator working for the prosecution claimed that Baldwin failed to address “multiple significant safety violations” on the set and noted that training in basic firearms safety rules was made available to Baldwin. - The Maine Warden Service is seeking the public’s help in gaining information about an illegally killed deer in Lebanon last week. A reward of $1,000 is being offered by Maine Operation Game Thief for information that leads to the arrest of whoever is responsible for killing the deer. The agency asks anyone with any information regarding this wildlife crime to contact Operation Game Thief at 1-800-ALERT-US. (NCM)
- A “polar punch” of air arrives Friday into Saturday. A brutally cold airmass normally reserved for the Arctic will move into New England for a brief period this weekend. Temperatures on Friday will drop starting at midnight and will reach zero during the afternoon, and then go subzero overnight into Saturday morning. Winds could gust to 35 mph with temperatures around -15 to -20. That will make it feel like -30 to -40. (WMTW)
- Some Maine communities are opening warming shelters due to the dangerously cold temperatures. A warming shelter will be open at the First Parish Church in Portland on Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. A warming shelter will be open at the Sanford Memorial Gym on Friday starting at noon. Augusta will open a daytime warming center on Friday and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Augusta Civic Center. (WGME)
